Tunisian Mechouia Salad
Grilled and chopped bell peppers, tomatoes, and hot peppers with olive oil and caraway, garnished with tuna, eggs, and olives.
Mechouia means "grilled" in Tunisian Arabic: bell peppers, tomatoes, hot peppers, and garlic are traditionally charred over coals before being peeled and chopped. Smoky, spicy, and melt-in-your-mouth, this salad is served cold as an appetizer, with bread for dipping. The oven is a great substitute for the grill.

Questions
Can it be made ahead of time?
Yes, it is even better after a few hours in the refrigerator, when the flavors have melded. Take it out 15 minutes before serving.
Caraway or cumin?
Caraway (karouia) is the traditional spice in Tunisia. Cumin gives a warmer flavor and works very well.
